Abstract

Nowadays, with the boosting of manufacturing and household activities, resource efficiency and sustainable consumption and production have become one of the main priorities worldwide. The increasing consumption of primary resources such as natural gas, oil and nutrients become scare, which is a subject of concern and requires the modern society to face intelligent challenges regarding the reduction of an absolute resource consumption level. The concept of a circular economy (CE) covers source separation, collection and transportation, material recovery, treatment and resource recovery and final disposal. Bio-resources are considered as a potential source that can provide value to the economy and contributes positively to climate change and protection of resources. This requires the implementation of a separate collection of bio-resources and further treatment with its material and energy recovery paths respectively anaerobic digestion followed by composting the digestate.
